Where it started

I didn't find photography so much as grow up inside it. My mom shot for Kathy's Dance Arts Studio here in Magnolia, and my dad works sound, video and lighting — he travels for it. There were always cameras around, every kind, so picking one up was never really a decision.

A few months in I took my first class, and that's when it turned. I could see how far it actually went, and what it could open up.

What I'm after

Most people message me with an idea already in their head. My job is to hand it back to them as something they can hold — and something they're proud of because it's theirs, not just because it's a nice photo.

On the day

My first college graduation sessions taught me more than any class did. I showed up ready to direct and found out the work got better the more I just talked to them.

Some sessions I'll put music on. Those were conversation the whole way through — keep the nerves down and what comes back looks like the person, not someone being photographed. Reading which one a session needs is most of the job.

The design half

The graphic design degree isn't a side interest, it's how I think about a shoot. Before we start I'm already thinking about where the images land — a feed, a grad announcement, a chapter composite, a brand's next three months. So I'm shooting a set that works together, not thirty versions of one frame.

Probates and chapter work

A probate happens once, moves fast, and the light is never good. I'm not in an organization myself — I've just shot enough of them to know when to be close and when to get out of the way.

Let's make something

If you have an idea in mind, I'd love to help you turn it into something worth remembering.
